About the Artist
C.H. Moor (1876 - 1949)
C.H. Moor was an artist who primarily painted rural landscapes in watercolor. He painted mostly on location in his native England, Wales, and later in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
The artist was born James Christopher Hoare Moor in 1876 in Birmingham, England. According to his 1949 obituary, Moor studied at the Kensington Gardens Art School in England. He grew up in England and later moved to the Swansea area of Wales where he painted landscapes and seascapes primarily in watercolor and was a member of the Swansea Art Society. Moor moved to the United States with his wife and son in 1920, where he continued to paint landscape - primarily in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Although art was a hobby for Moor rather than a career, it is obvious from studying the piles of paintings he left behind that art was definitely a passion for him.
In addition to his own work, his collection contained works by Alfred Rawlings and Alfred Parkman as well as several unsigned works of art. Rawlings and Parkman were both English watercolor artists and both were also members of the Swansea Art Society along with Moor.
